The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Might Solve This

As any significant honors show approaches, you'll find a demand for introducing of new categories to honor overlooked contributions and delight the spirits of fans who have specialized interests.

A fellow writer has already made for a horror game category. That would rule. The same goes for strategy board titles, which is someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize since similar to single-minded supporters, I possess a compelling case for why my demand remains most pressing above others. Here's the proposal: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. There’s a reason cinema institutions avoid this approach. But it is a necessary evil in the world of interactive entertainment, that demonstrate such variety it's challenging to consider them one unified medium.

To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature genre categories for Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these award types effectively encompass many game types, and you can find room accommodating various experiences.

This doesn't apply to puzzle games. No appropriate category exists to put them. Think about these recent excellent titles, each quite distinct: building puzzles in a particular game, the pulse-pounding block-matching of another game, thought-provoking social scenarios from additional release. Which classification works between these six categories? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Acknowledgment Issues

Numerous examples exist outstanding logic titles launched regularly without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match for categories like Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.

  • An iconic brain-teaser wasn’t nominated completely in 2014
  • Another imaginative release received no nominations that year
  • A beloved organization game got ignored recently
  • Limited numbers of puzzle games managed to sneak into niche award types

Value of Brain-Teasers

These are often modest productions, but the art of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Iconic mobile puzzle games stand as most popular titles worldwide and have been for many years.

The iconic tile-matching title challenges famous sandbox experiences competing to become most purchased experience; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and engaging across multiple categories.

Proposal and Rationale

Logic titles wouldn't face this problem. You could fill five nominees interesting, varied, worthy titles every year with ease — actually, with challenge, because you’d have to leave many worthy titles.

And to reiterate, these represent titles that otherwise have no home at major gaming awards. Logic title developers operate at the hard edge of video game design, creating some of the purest expressions of the video game form. Similar to movie stunt professionals, they merit acknowledgment. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
